About me and my blog

Hi, I'm Jeannie Prinsen.  Thanks for stopping by my blog and for visiting this page.

First and foremost, I'm mom to Allison and Jonathan and wife to Richard. I was born in Prince Edward Island but moved to Kingston, Ontario when I was 22 to attend Queen's University; I've lived in Kingston ever since.

For many years I was an online writing instructor at Queen's, teaching a course called "Fundamentals of Academic Essay-Writing" (which is no more, or less, exciting than it sounds). Having retired from my Queen's work, I now do some copyediting part-time for a local news organization.

Here on the blog I share reflections about faith, family life, autism, reading, writing, and whatever else interests me. Check the My writing page of this blog for details about my published writing.

My life quote is this sentence from The Lord of the Rings:

Such is oft the course of deeds
that move the wheels of the world:
small hands do them because they must,
while the eyes of the great are elsewhere.

  1. So glad to have "met" you here on your blog, visiting through the Five Minute Friday link-up. Although I enjoy living here in Massachusetts with my American husband and family, I am a Canadian girl at heart, born and raised the the Niagara Peninsula, not too far from you! I also come from a family of teachers; my dad retired several years ago from a lifetime teaching career, my mom was a teacher when she was younger until she decided to stay home to raise myself and my younger sister, and I enjoyed ten years working as a teacher's aide in a local Christian school. So we have some fun things in common. :)

    1. Thanks so much for this message, Ann! Although I was born in PEI, I've lived in Ontario for over 30 years. I'm really enjoying the FMF community because it's a great way to connect with others, like yourself -- and of course it's always nice to make a Canadian connection!

  2. I just read a comment you made over at Tim Fall's blog about your son Jonathan. I also noticed that you write about special needs and that you have a tag of Asperger's/Autism on some of your posts. Does Jonathan have autism? I have an 18-year-old son with autism.

    1. Hello Tina, I am only now seeing your comment. Jonathan (14) is on the autism spectrum, and so is his sister (she is 18 and received an Aspergers diagnosis at age 7). How are things going with your son? The teen years can be challenging. Thanks for reaching out; sorry for missing your message till now.

  3. I need you to understand how amazing your site is. You are an inspiration to me and my family. Recently I have been worried about my two teenage daughters. I was beginning to think they lost their faith in Jesus Christ, but reading your blog motivated them to continue their path of righteousness. I also adore you openness about your kids' disability it helped me cope with my own . I appreciate your existence, and I bless your wholesome soul. love, Devra
